Hamster Catapult

Hamster CatapultIf you’ve ever had a pet hamster you will most probably have found that it was often very depressed. It is a well known scientific fact that hamsters are amongst the most depressed animals in the world. This is due to them not being able to fly. As you know, hamsters aren’t rodents, as many tend to belive, but birds – close relatives to the kiwi and penguins. While the kiwi and the penguins have come to terms with the fact that they are unable to fly the hamsters haven’t, and it’s eating them up on the inside.

Now, thanks to Epic Pet Gadgets, it is now possible to make the dream come true for your hamster with the Hamster Catapult.

It only requires basic assembly and you and your hamster are ready to go. Place the hamster in the specially manufactured hamster basket, load the spring, release it and your hamster is flying like he has always dreamed of.

If you and your hamster wants to repeat the fun you will need one or all of the following articles that will be available from Epic Pet Gadgets shortly: Hamster Catching Baseball Glove, Hamster Parachute or Hamster Helmet. If you can’t afford the extra gadgets make sure you have at least one friend on stand by to catch your hamster.

Although this product was specifically designed for hamsters it is possible to use it on other small pets who share the hamsters dreams of flying.

Digital TV Aerial Receiver for Dogs

Digital TV aerial receiver for dogsThis is a very early prototype but we’re just dying to let you in on it because we feel this is something quite special. As with just about every project here on Epic Pet Gadgets it started with a basic need for us. We’re having problems with our TV reception and unfortunately our landlord won’t allow that we put up an antenna on the wall and an indoor digital antenna just doesn’t cut it.

Heinrich, our old dog, is out in the garden all day long so we thought that the landlord couldn’t possibly have an issue if we mounted the antenna on the dog instead of his precious wall. It’s easier said than done though as there are several problems we have to overcome. First we need the actual antenna and this is easy to attach to Heinrich’s head – a bit like when your dog is posing as a reindeer in your Christmas photos. Secondly we need to get the signal into a digital receiver and decoder. Thirdly we need to transmit the TV-signal through air to our TV set indoors. Fourthly the dog also need to carry a substantial battery pack to power the whole thing. Fifth, the dog need to sit or stand still enough for best reception. Sixth, the whole arrangement needs to be waterproof.

The fourth and fifth issues are so far working in favour of each other as the battery pack is quite heavy which limits Heinrich’s movements a bit. We are working on waterproofing the kit because poor Heinrich got some shocks when it started to rain last week. Nothing major and he’s thankfully alright.

The first prototype is as you can see from the pictures not ready for commercial and consumer use, but we’re getting there and I think this project will be heaven sent for all of you out there with bad reception and well trained dogs.

Fluorescent Cat Safety

It’s funny how really good products come from misunderstandings. Two sweet Russian guys sold me what I thought was a container with laundry detergent down at the harbour last month. It turned out to be something completely different. It didn’t have that soft flowery smell that I like for my laundry and when I tried it in the washing machine strange things happened. My shirts went all fluorescent. Since I bought a whole container of the stuff I was a bit depressed at first but then we started thinking what use this could have in our business.

As a cat lover I’m always worried about my cats being run over by cars when they are out roaming the streets at night. Wouldn’t it be great if they were easy for cars to spot? Well, they can be now! I applied this material to one of my cat’s fur and he now glows at night! It’s really cool actually. The paint wears off after a week or so so it’s nothing permanent.

We've got lots of it!

We’ve got plenty of this stuff to sell and are currently sorting out the re-packaging. Make a comment at this page with your email address and we’ll send you an email as soon as we’ve got consumer sized cans of it. We’re probably talking about $9 per gallon.

The Fluorescent Cat Safety product can almost certainly work on all kinds of pets that you feel need to glow in the dark.

As far as we know the product is not harmful in any way but we would advise the use of plastic gloves while applying the product on your pet and try not to get the product into the animal’s eyes or mouth. Not for internal use.

Tortoise Pencil Sharpener

Tortoise Pencil SharpenerSometimes the world of prototyping is a tedious business but it does streamline your workflow and will fill a few pits you may otherwise have fallen into. We have been working on the pet pencil sharpener for a few months tossing ideas between each other. At first we had the dog pencil sharpener but there were two major drawbacks:

  1. Attaching the pencil sharpener to the fur was troublesome
  2. The dog needs to be highly trained in order for it to always be by your side when you need your pencil sharpened.

Uwe then suggested the mighty tortoise, the land living part of the turtle family, and that was better in every possible way. Attaching the pencil sharpener to the shell is simple and we’ve now come up with the perfect epoxy glue that makes the thing stick like there’s no tomorrow. And if you bring your tortoise to work and need your pencil sharpened chances are your tortoise hasn’t been able to move that far away from you. They are slow, you see. Really slow.

The Tortoise Pencil Sharpener is here to stay.

This prototype with a retro style pencil sharpener sits on a rather large tortoise we found in the wild. We had to wrestle him first but that’s what you do when you domesticate wild turtles. It is possible to stick small pencil sharpeners to juvenile turtles as well. In this case size doesn’t really matter.

Budgie Carrying Bag Necklace

Budgie Carrying Bag NecklaceThe Budgie Carrying Bag Necklace is Epic Pet Gadgets’ first prototype. It was inspired by the dog carrying bags we started seeing in Los Angeles after we moved to America. As the market for those bags was a bit saturated we decided to get a prototype made of a similar product, but for budgies. The unique selling point for budgies is not only their great color but also that they are small and portable. We wanted to take this one step further by offering this carrying bag in the form of a necklace. This is perfect for your active lifestyle as you now can take your budgie out with you to the shooting range or paragliding. You and your budgie will definitely bond with one of these.
